Board Membership Opportunities
Resolutions Northwest is currently seeking board members with skills and experience in marketing, finance, technology, legal, and human resource management. Ideally candidates will have experience with and a passion for conflict resolution, peacemaking, facilitation or mediation. Past board experience or experience with not profit social service sector is also a plus. Above everything else the board values diversity.
We currently have three open positions:
The board of Resolutions Northwest is an active board that meets monthly to provide governance and strategic support to the agency staff. Setting and overseeing the agency budget, supporting the strategic directions of the organization, supporting fundraising and resource development, and assisting the agency grow its community relationships are the primary goals of the board.
As a board member there are several expectations to consider before submitting your application packet.
- The commitment of a board member is for a two year term with the possibility of a reappointment to an additional two year term. There is no compensation for serving on the board.
- Board members are expected to attend monthly board meetings on the third Wednesday of each month from 6-8 pm (a light meal is provided). In addition, board members are also expected to contribute time to planning events, serving on subcommittees and participate in joint staff/board events.
- The board believes that it is imperative to maintain a 100% contribution rate for our board members. Every board members is expected to make an annual financial contribution to Resolutions Northwest. The contribution amount is not currently specified but should be a meaningful reflection of your means.
- Resolutions Northwest is maturing as an organization and has created internal capacity and a team of external consultants to assist in human resource, legal and resource development functions. However, board members are expected to contribute from their professional knowledge and experience. So, for example, when Resolutions Northwest recently revised its employee handbook, a board member with Human Resources expertise reviewed the handbook and provided many constructive recommendations.
The process for being considered for board membership starts with the completion of a board application packet. Once the packet is received, we will set up an informal interview with the Executive Director and a board member. If it seems like there is a potential fit, the candidate is invited as a guest to the next board meeting. During that meeting both the candidate and the board are offered the opportunity to assess whether there is a good match. Following the board meeting, board members will discuss and vote to formally accept the candidate.
