When race and mediation intersect, what’s a mediator to do?

How would you respond if you heard something blatantly racist in case development or mediation? What if you felt a tingle of offensiveness, but you didn’t know why?

This advanced training hones in on racism and the role of the mediator. We believe that social change and mediation intersect. Do you? How could you support the parties and support racial justice at the same time?

In this training, you will:

  • Use real-life scenarios to explore possible interventions and practice in a role play.
  • Explore options beyond the “party-led” approach. We will bring some of those approaches into the boxing ring to debate their merit.
  • Enjoy lively group discussion with other mediators.

We won’t have all the answers, but we promise to raise good questions.

Prerequisite: Basic mediation training of at least 32 hours.
