Training Programs

Resolutions Northwest's Mediation and Training program provides training for individuals, community groups, and organization on topics related to conflict resolution.

We believe that empowering people with skills related to conflict resolution leads to improved relationships and stronger communities. As part of our contract with the City of Portland's Office of Neighborhood Involvement, we conduct an annual volunteer mediator training and a volunteer facilitator training. In addition, we offer training workshops for our Juvenile Restorative Justice and our Family Mediation Programs.

Volunteer Basic Mediation Training:  Volunteer mediators are recruited and trained to work directly with people in disputes; easing tensions, establishing trust, helping the parties find solutions. All volunteers complete 38 hours of professional mediation training, followed by a one-year, 120-hour mentor program, which includes a weekly commitment of a three hour shift. This allows RNW to maintain its high standards of service and commitment to improving Portland's neighborhoods, while providing a valuable skill-building experience for the volunteer. This volunteer opportunity supports our Neighborhood Mediation Program funded by the City of Portland’s Office of Neighborhood Involvement. RNW mediator training meets the requirements for Community Mediators under the Oregon Administrative Rules for Community Dispute Resolution Centers. Read more here.

Volunteer Facilitator Training:  Volunteer facilitators are recruited and trained to serve in our community facilitation program. This volunteer opportunity supports our Neighborhood Mediation program funded by the City of Portland.    Volunteer recruitment and training takes place in the spring of each year.  After successfully completing a 16-hour basic facilitation training course, volunteers are expected to donate 35 hours of service as a community facilitator over the course of a year.

Restorative Justice Facilitator Training: Volunteer mediators can also receive an additional 8 hours of training to facilitate juvenile offender and victim restorative meetings as part of our County funded Restorative Justice program. Mediating in the juvenile restorative justice program also requires the successful completion of a criminal background check.

Family Mediator Training: Volunteer mediators can also receive additional training to mediate in our family mediation program.  Youth who have been trained as peer mediators in their schools and adults who have received basic mediation training are eligible to apply for the family program's volunteer training.

Customized training programs:  RNW also creates customized and tailored training workshops on a fee-for-service basis. Our rates for developing and implementing trainings range from $90-$120 per hour, depending on the size and the complexity of the training. Contact Christina Albo at christina@resolutionsnorthwest.org   or by phone at 503-595-4890 extension 101 to discuss your training needs.
