Delve into the philosophy and practice of Aikido
and gain practical tools to help resolve everyday conflicts.

Saturday afternoon, July 21

Enjoy a Saturday afternoon exploring how Aikido, "the martial art of peace," can help you put the experience of non-violent conflict resolution into your body.

This unique collaboration between RNW and Two Rivers Aikikai blends physical activities, principles of Aikido, and discussion of day-to-day conflict situations. Participants will:

  1. Gain greater awareness of your responses to conflict.
  2. Practice being more centered, connected, and fluid in your interactions.
  3. Experience alternatives to “fight, flee, or flop” that can allow you to better meet both your own goals and the other person’s.
  4. Notice how your non-verbal signals can influence the escalation or diffusion of tension during conflict.
  5. Explore 10 Aikido principles for everyday conflict resolution.
  6. Have fun!

Experience with Aikido is not required, and this workshop is accessible for many different abilities. There will be no throws, pins or falls except in the demonstration by instructors Spiros Koyanis and Teri Pierson. If you have any questions, e-mail us or call 503-595-4890 (RNW) or 503-238-7012 (Two Rivers).

Through movement, introspection, and interaction, you will gain practical tools for resolving conflict and put the experience of non-violent conflict resolution into your body.

Past participants say:

  • The instructors are wonderful and have a great spirit and energy. The workshop was playful and fun.
  • I learned how my body and mind responded to “threatening” situations and that this is something I can practice and change.
  • The interactive, one-on-one exercises worked well along with the regular connections being made to conflict resolution work through discussion.
  • Most significant for me was connecting mind and body – through motion, principles and action.
