The first half of this all-day interactive workshop is a good fit for people who are new to diversity / equity work as well as anyone who would like a refresher on key concepts and skills.  It is set up to draw on each person’s experiences and invite a deeper understanding.

Through structured listening activities, small- and large-group conversation, journaling, and just a small amount of presentation by the diverse training team, participants will explore:

  • Multiple cultural identities – their own and others’
  • Key concepts and experiences of oppression / unearned disadvantage
  • Dynamics and experiences of privilege / unearned advantage
  • Skills for connecting across differences through introspection, mindful listening, and reflective inquiry
  • Ways each participant can continue a lifelong journey around topics of equity and diversity

This workshop takes a broad view of cultural diversity. It encompasses many areas of identity, including race, ethnicity, gender, ability, socioeconomic status, region, and many more.

The second half of the day will explore what we can do when racism arises in our everyday lives - at the grocery store, at a family gathering, in our neighborhood or workplace. Come ready to learn three tools for interrupting racism and practice-practice-practice!

What past participants say about our Interrupting Racism Actionshop

  • "Interactive throughout, kept people engaged and responding"
  • "Excellent Energy! Thanks for your honesty and real life examples.
  • "This made me stop and look at myself."
  • "Thank you for your openness and very positive energy! This was probably the most useful training I’ve ever been to. Thank you!"
  • It was great to be able to have time to act out scenarios where we can act and interrupt to challenge racism together.
